After the indication (ADHD) |
 |
|
ADHD in order? The first impression after the indication could be that ADHD is in order. It does not have to be that way, even if the shown symptoms do seem to conclude this. Lack of concentration could be caused by several other factors. Also extreme mobileness and impulsiveness could be caused by something else than ADHD. You can have the suspicion (hypothesis) by looking at the behavior and shown signals. Other suspicions could be caused by extreme overasking and not leveled to his/her possibilities. Other different hypothesis requires a different investigation. | | Decision tree The following questions could be the basis of the 'decision tree'. - are learning problems or learning disorders (like dyslexion) in order. If so, ask a specific research or give aimed help
- when there is no improvement whatsoever, ask yourself if the student had adequate and efficient learning strategies. Does the student know how to handle a particular task?
- Is the way of teaching giving different reactions? Is the teacher involved in the task perception of the student? Ask the student how she/he wants to handle a task?
- Is the student distracted in his/her environment?
- What is the physical condition of the student? Think about fatigue or maybe he/she has got a disease.
- Is the emotional condition of the student a reason for lack of concentration? It could be a child is stressed because of the home situation or other students. Think about teased children.
- To have insight information about the possible factors who could cause the concentration capabilities in a negative way, the following questionaire could be used:
»Questionnaire surroundig factors (.doc)
Not clear If the mentioned factors are not clearly influencing the capabilities of student, one can decide to have a closer observation to found the suspicion of ADHD. You should use the Short CTRS-list. »ShortCTRS-lijst (.doc) Seriousness The seriousness of the weak task posture and lack of concentration can be concluded with the use of the 'time tick test' form. »Time tick form (.doc) The outcome of these questionaires could enhance the suspicion of ADHD. To diagnose ADHD a pediatrist, child psychiatrist, child psychologist or child neurologist should make this claim. How the diagnose of ADHD is done, is written in Diagnose. |
